Perform Metallurgical Services functions through chemical analysis of heat samples, hot billet inspection and inventory control, and managing billet hot charging. Maintain and operate spectrometer, Leco analyzer, and related equipment to examine the chemical composition of heats from melting and casting. Maintain and operate the slag analyzer and related equipment for determination of slag composition in melting. Inspect hot billets at the caster for surface and dimensional conformity to orders. Assess product grade change samples to maintain traceability during rolling. Record, verify and submit test and inspection results to supervisor.

The Yard Operator will assist in several aspects of daily operational needs such as scrap inspection, ferrous and non-ferrous purchasing, mobile equipment operation, and performing general maintenance duties. Performs maintenance necessary to keep plant, equipment, machinery, and tools in good operating condition. Work involves a wide range of methods and procedures on a variety of routine and non-routine duties to adequately and properly diagnose, dismantle, repair, lubricate, and reassemble equipment. Troubleshoots basic mechanical assemblies to determine whether a pump, gearbox, hydraulic system or pneumatic system can be repaired or needs to be replaced, whether to replace or repair worn parts, and amount of lubrication needed. You will be performing a limited variety of highly repetitive duties to load and secure steel rail spike products into railroad gondola cars, boxcars, or truck trailers for shipment to customer location.
